Why We Like Riding in Bibs
OK, the short is easy, carefree, no straps. Whip'em on and whip'em off. We get that. We rode in them for a long time. But once you try a bib, you never go back.
Why? I answer this question literally hundreds of times throughout the year.
Q: Are bibs really that much more comfortable that a short?
A: YES. If you wear shorts, you don't really know what you're missing... I mean, lycra in any short stretches... it's not like you feel uncomfortable while you are riding. But when you ride in a bib, then you'll understand what you've been missing: absolutely no binding around the waist. It feels like you're naked through the middle. (But you're not. We promise.). You have more freedom, and freedom leads to relaxation. There IS a difference. Here at Dude Girl, we ride exclusively in Bib Shorts. (The exception is when we hit the indoor cycling studio at Pelo Fitness. Then we might pull on a short for a quick hour-long workout.)
Q:But what about going to the bathroom? Isn't that a pain?
A: Some women ask this question like they just can't imagine pulling two bibstraps down. So the answer is, "It's just slightly more inconvenient than pulling your shorts down, but, No! It's not a pain! Unzip your jersey, remove it, hang it or hold it, take your bibstraps off, put them on again, pull your jersey on, zip up and you're off!" The small inconvenience is completely dismissed by the added comfort.
Q: What if you are outside in the boonies?
A: Are you wearing a sports bra? There should be no issue here.
If you've never ridden in a bib, try it. You will love the added comfort and feeling of freedom! Especially on long days in the saddle!
You're welcome.
